Tired of wearing the same cable knit sweater and leggings on lazy days? It's time to try something just as effortless - but twice as polished - the blazer.
Traditionally, blazers were reserved for interviews and offices. Those days are long gone, my fashionistas. This is your time to shine in your blazer, and it doesn't matter the setting. Depending on the way you style your blazer, you can wear it anywhere - from the office, to the movies, to a first date, and anywhere in between.
A great thing about blazers as a trend right now is that they come in a million colors and styles. I picked out six of the most popular blazer styles that I'm seeing in celebrity street style photos and magazine spreads. I have a violet 3/4 sleeve blazer from senior year in high school that I still break out every now and then! They were cool then, they're even more chic now, and I have a feeling they're going to stick around for a while.
Collarless // This style has the same sophistication as a traditional blazer, but the "cool factor" of a leather jacket. It's chic, streamlined, and eye-catching.
Wear it to // work, date, girls' night out.
3/4 Sleeve // The 3/4 sleeve creates a more casual vibe without looking totally unprofessional. Pair it with a sundress and you have a great, light, and easy day look. Or, wear it with a t-shirt, Converse shoes, and skinny jeans for a cool "hang out" look.
Wear it to // date, hanging out, shopping.
Printed // Printed jackets say "look at me!" These are for the days that your hair is on point and you're rocking your favorite lip color. Just remember, the printed jacket should be the focal point. Pair it with neutrals.
Wear it to // semi-formal events, girls' night out.
Boyfriend // Another term for the boyfriend is "longline." However, if you're shopping for a longline blazer, make sure that it's a "boyfriend fit." You don't want a thigh-length blazer that's cinched at the waist. You're not starring in The Matrix. This jacket is super trendy right now, and probably the most comfortable to wear.
Wear it to // shopping, work, girls' night out.
Bright // A simple alternative to the traditional, neutral blazer. Just don't wear it to any job interviews!
Wear it to // semi-formal events, girls' night out, date.
Cropped // This is the most fun and flirty version of the blazer. "Cropped" can mean a shorter line, or it can also mean a cool cut design, like a scallop (below).
