The fashion weeks are the holy grail of the fashion industry. London Fashion Week, however, may be the most coveted event of the entire year for fashionistas world-wide. There's a sense of sophistication that the London runway brings to the table, where other runways - while they each have a uniqueness and elegance all their own - pale in comparison.
I decided to take opposite ends of the spectrum to review for LFW. The week still isn't over, but I was so excited that I couldn't wait any longer. Not to mention, I'm already falling behind in regards to keeping up with all the designers that show. I still have some homework to do, but from what I have seen, there are two lines that stand out to me. Julien Macdonald and Topshop both brought excellent shows to the runway - and for different reasons.

Couture for the Eye: This line is truly beautiful. Julien Macdonald emanates a sense of confident glamor through his pieces without coming across as arrogant. The simple elegance of the silhouettes is enhanced by the intricate detailing of lace, crafted fabric placements, and other feminine elements. The reason I refer to this collection as "couture for the eye" is because that's exactly what it is: unless you're a size 0 dress and a AA cup. While there are some blessed women who can pull of these designs with ease, the majority of us cannot. But - that's also part of the fantasy of LFW. And we love it anyway. By the way, can we take a moment to appreciate his impeccable semi-traditional spin on the wedding gown? Macdonald could teach Betsey Johnson a few things… |
I Want That: The other collection that stood out to me among various designers at LFW was Topshop's collection. Some of you may be familiar with the fashion forward line that allows normal people with a limited budget to dress in high-quality, high-fashion garments. I loved Topshop before their SS15 LFW show, but the presentation made me fall in love with the brand even more. And hey -- their clothes are actually wearable! My two favorite looks follow the red, white, and blue color palate, but the line includes pops of other color as well. Interested to look at more? Want to shop? I have you covered.
