I feel like my last few posts have been very text-heavy, so this post will be filled with pretty pictures (and not-so-pretty-pictures.) Now that we're nearly two weeks into 2015, it's time to embody "out with the old, and in with the new." Intrigued? Check out my thoughtful compilations of things that you need to dump in 2015, and the cute options you can replace them with. Sorry, flyaway vests. It's not you, it's us....actually, it's you.
out with the old: flyaway vest
When I see a flyaway vest, I just think back to pictures of me from 2009. They're overdone, they're used in a versatile manner when they're strictly meant for casual settings (I've seen one at a wedding), and they're universally not flattering. It's time to bring in the flyaway's replacement: the puffer vest. Whether your puffer vest has a vinyl appearance, a parka hood, or a cute pattern, don't worry - it's cute! As long as you style it simply. And if you're planning on attending a wedding in the near future, go ahead and leave this piece at home. |

out with the old: bauble necklace
I remember when bauble necklaces first made their appearance in stores like Buckle and Charming Charlie - I desperately wanted one. In every color. And while they had their fun run, bauble necklaces are trendy. And their trend streak has run out. Bauble necklaces have a cheap aesthetic, and that's the last message you're trying to convey to your first date or your future employer. Speaking of trends, thank goodness they're cyclical. Chokers are back! The 80s and 90s necklace that every girl wanted is now back and available for purchase - in more options, colors, and styles than ever before! You can layer chokers for a more modern take, or go classic with a velvet charmed choker. Either way, you're making a chic statement. |

out with the old: mega heels
Alright, I'm definitely guilty of sporting the mega heel at high school proms. It was a mistake I realize, now. While I wore them for the leg-elongating affect (which they do beautifully), I totally overlooked the almost-trashy vibe they give off. Whoops. I don't care if you're going to the bar or out to dinner - there are other shoes that make your legs look fantastic, (and don't make you look like an off-duty exotic dancer who walks like a newborn giraffe.) In with the new heel! Well, they're not totally new. The kitten heel can be styled for nearly any occasion. (It only gives off the 50s housewife vibe if you pair it with a perm and an apron.) And the great part? You'll never have to question whether or not you look classy. You do. |

out with the old: junior prints
The problem with prints like aztec, grandma's-couch-florals, galaxy, crosses, zebra, etc., is that there's simply too many of them. If you walk into a juniors' section of any major department store, these are the prints that will be plastered from floor to ceiling. Simply put, they give off a childish - almost immature - aura. Now, I'm not saying throw out all your florals. Either style them in a way that is professional and presentable, or strictly use them for casual things, like a girls' night in watching movies. Love your prints but still want to look stylish, chic, and put together? Search for new, nontraditional prints. There's a million of them! If you find a print on a silhouette that you like (that doesn't necessarily look like anything you've seen before), go for it! Check out some of the options I have below to get your mind brainstorming. Mango.com has a lot of cool prints like this for reasonable prices. |
